Artist Statement

Hello there! I'm Gonzalo Lecaros, an artist based in the city of Montreal My craft is variated, and I find it exciting and vitalizing to work in different artistic fields, whether in music, photography, poetry, or cinema.

In recent months, the topic that most catches my attention are social networks, technology, and the advertising apocalypse; its repercussions on daily life, and how they disconnect us from the world around us

My work engages with the question of technology, in relation to human interaction, connection, and attention. In the school project “Connection”, I use photography as my method to explore the commodification of our attention, which is how social media companies profit in this new technological world.

I mix my photography with digital art and drawing using Photoshop software to manufacture my photomontages.

By creating these casual encounters with different human strangers and portraying the dichotomy between connection and disconnection of our digital screens, my work seeks to capture moments where the social essence of the human being is lost and is replaced by a system where it seems that we are more controlled than in control.
