PROJECT PROPOSAL:
(DIS)CONNECTED
My Final Integrating Activity project will take the form of a photomontage that reflects the massive use of technology and social networks in daily life. My gallery work, entitled "Dis-Connected", will consist of 6 different photo/edited material showing our addiction to our phones and the disconnection with the outside world. In order to catch the essence of disconnection, the project's intention is to be as spontaneous as possible.
To carry out the project we were given the theme of connection. This concept made me think of the globalization of the world that is experienced through the Internet, technology, and social networks.
However, this globalization to which we are exposed also has its negative side. By participating in any type of online activity, we give corporations access to our eyes and ears so they can analyze our perception of the world, our likes, and dislikes.
These companies give us a virtual version of the world, designed for us in such a way that it holds our attention for as long as possible.
This project is relevant to me not only because it allows me to work in my skill sets using editing programs, but also the gallery's style represents to me a future dystopia. The main message? That futuristic dystopia has already arrived.
